Rioba teas are harvested when the plant has reached its peak maturity and its aroma is fully developed. Two leaves and a bud – delicate hand picking. The optimal methods of harvesting also affect the quality of the tea. For this reason, Rioba teas are harvested with great care, exclusively by hand. Those who stand among the long rows of tea plants and skillfully pick these leaves with a single hand movement are usually women. Careful harvesting is necessary for the best quality, meaning only the bud at the tip of the branch and the two fresh leaves at the edge should be picked. Careful harvesting requires skill, precision, and patience; only teas harvested in this way are "first-class" teas. Unique teas can only be produced using the Orthodox – traditional method. Tea leaves the nursery as a final product, therefore its quality is determined by the harvesting method: special or mass harvesting. Today, there are three different processes used in black tea production: fully automatic CTC and LTP processes, where the leaves are crushed and pulverized by large machines. The traditional method is called the Orthodox method. And it requires both time and great care. Freshly picked tea leaves are carefully and meticulously harvested using the traditional process. in this delicate process, the tea leaves are rolled after drying, oxidation, sifting, and sorting. The traditional method is very time-consuming and naturally quite expensive, but it is the only method that can be used to fully preserve the aroma and prevent the typical character of the tea from being spoiled. You can easily distinguish the difference of traditional production in the taste of the tea! CTC (Crushing, Tearing, Curling): in the CTC method, the leaves are crushed, broken up, and curled. LTP (Lawrie tea processor): Unlike the traditional method, in this method, the teas are processed and cut by machines. As with CTC, the difference in taste between the tea leaves is indistinguishable, and their unique aromas disappear.
