Milas carpets are 100% wool carpets with a double knot, known as the "Turkish knot." The warp, weft, and loop threads are all entirely wool. The quality standard for Milas carpets, as determined by the Turkish Standards Institute, is 26 x 40 knots per square centimeter; this particular carpet is of 28 x 40 knots. It is one of the most famous products of the Milas region. Produced entirely with organic materials, from the wool to the dyes and even the wood used to boil the wool, no chemicals are used in any stage of the carpet's production. Reflecting centuries of culture, the dominant colors in Milas carpets are all shades of red and yellow. A harmonious blend of colors, 26 known colors are used in Milas carpets. The threads used in weaving are colored with water obtained from plants found in nature, processed through various stages; this is called "root dye." Almond branches and the tree of life produce "pistachio green," oak leaves and heather produce yellow and its shades, artichoke leaves and mint produce green, and oak and walnuts produce shades of brown. Our villagers, living in harmony with nature, know how to obtain various colors by utilizing almost every plant. Each Milas rug is unique and one-of-a-kind.
